Save Money on Lodging With University Rates

Over the weekend I booked a hotel with a new (to me) discount rate.

Using my typical process for finding discounted lodging rates when I am on a road trip, I asked about AAA and other discounts. The agent would not budge from the $58 walk up rate.

The property was not at full capacity so I knew I could, I should, get some discount.

I simply asked, do you have any lower rates?

She said, are you going to the university?

In fact, the purpose of this road trip was visiting colleges with my son, so I said, Yes!

She said, well, then I can offer a rate of $45.

So, I saved more than 20%—and got some information for a new McCool Travel post.

I have previously mentioned university rates. This was, however, the first time I actually used such a discount.

Have you stayed in a hotel / motel and used a university discount rate?

NOTE: As much as I wish I was compensated by the companies mentioned in this article, I am NOT.
